It’s the last day of 2013! Here’s What you need to wear…

The New Year is nearly upon us and it’s time to think about the last outfit that you’re going to wear in 2013.

The cropped pant look is perfect for partying. I love this look by Alice + Olivia, very Girls, right? And the topknot makes it Halston 70s sexy. The latex catsuit by Vex Clothing brings the sexy drama, and will make you stand out in a crowded club environment. Either outfit will work with this gold lame jacket by American Apparel. Topknot optional.

Ladylike and sophisticated is always in style. I love Kerry Leuikus’ Miss Wu sleeveless sheath (cinched at the waist by her own Keggy designer belt). PR maven Janine Just rocks some coveted Isabel Marant from H&M. The petal- like cut of the skirt keeps it classy, while the length shows off great legs. Try this  little cap sleeved number from Carmen Marc Valvo for your end of year evening.

Get cute from the skin out! Make sure that you smooth on some luxurious Something Blue body lotion by Oscar de la Renta. NYC’s HD eyeshadow trio in a neutral palette that gleams( I received this product in an Influenster Jolly Vox Box recently).  The subtle eye makeup will make it easier for you to wear the hot red Stila Stay All Day lipstick in Fiery.

Now you’re ready! Before you run out the door, make sure you have the finishing touches that will keep you from fading into the crowd. A spiky earcuff  from VeraMeat translates 80s era punk for the aughts. I adore these red leather Paris booties from St Laurent (shhh.. on sale at Barneys!). JJI intern Janine Simon models This Twiggy portrait collar coat from Oba Asia will bring joy to everyone who sees you. So Jackie O!

Whatever you decide to do- remember to drink responsibly, remember to have some taxi fare just in case, and keep snacking throughout the night so that you’re not imbibing on an empty stomach.

Have a fun, flirty NYE!!!

my leopardskin cardi, that latex designer on styled to Rock

So I was sitting around looking through my twitter feed and (late as usual) found out about a show called Styled to Watch. While I resent getting suckered into watching anything featuring Rihanna, there was  a major payoff: I actually worked with Laura Pulice from Vex.

Fetish model  Messy Stench in Vex (you may also have seen her in the Jane Austen Book Club)

I was a student at Columbia College Chicago and I was looking for something that would push me out of anonymity. Well, after 6 months of working the wilderness of the early aughts wilderness, I was Chicago famous, was getting freelance gigs, and my first tear sheet.

Me! Looking mad sexy, I must say…

I even got to wear the clothes one time when a model stood me up. bet that chick is biting herself now… Because after all my relentless promotion,   people were begging to work with me, lol! And I was still in school, still broke, and wondering what would be next for me.

I even photographed Laura at her job to Coyote Ugly. That was fun, she and bartenders Silvia and Brianna were completely over the top. It was he last time we worked together. People move on.

It sucks that Rihanna picked Sergio’s design, but Laura handle the situation with class. She’s the real rocker anyway.

I was gonna write about my leopardskin cardi but this was way more exciting.. So- next post: my leopardskin cardi. I have many things to say about it.

procrastinating, looking at pics of Michelle Obama

I’m supposed to be editing a Gift Guide and instead I’m looking at jobs on linkedin and planning my future ‘big bucks’ wardrobe. It’s half laziness and half being sick.

My whose plan was to do a Procrastinator’s Last Chance Gift Guide, and I did all this research and I have a pile of notes and ripped out photos and a folder full of downloaded images and I’m so woozy from having  cold I can’t collect myself enough to get started.

This is so bad!

I thought I might do a little something, get started- but I found myself on linked in and started looking at jobs in cities other that New York. I made a choice, and it seems that there’s a healthy demand, and that I have some qualifications so then I started daydreaming about whet I would wear to an interview, and that’s how I came to this:

Michelle Obama– c’mon, this outfit rules!

I love the color grey, this is an outfit that you can wear any season, the BOOTS!!!!! You can always add a bright red belt or something for color. And I’m growing my hair out, so I may be able to pull off this hairstyle in the foreseeable future.

So much for that Gift Guide…

However- I did do a story about where to find Exotic Gifts for ‘Him’ so that’s something. And you can see gift suggestions on my Lucky Community blog. And I wrote about the cool Origins discount (find products and promo code here) So it’s not a total wash.

There are still 5 more days to Christmas, right? I’ll totally work on that Procrastinator’s Last Chance Gift Guide tomorrow.

oh boy! it’s ALL about being a girl at Milly and Missoni

I love things that are influenced by menswear, but pretty things will always have my heart. Milly’s pre-fall 2014 line has the fun/funky air of the 90s Mar Jacobs girl. The type of styleista that can throw on anything and look like a million because she’s all fashion all the time.

Milly_001_1366.450x675 Milly_004_1366.450x675 Milly_006_1366.450x675 Milly_023_1366.450x675

It’s a nod to an unseflconscious way of dressing, it’s like Carrie B. when that idea of flitting around NY in a tutu was cute.  Love. Adore. Desire.

Missoni scored by utilizing their main weapon- pattern.

Missoni_010_1366.450x675 Missoni_001_1366.320x480 (1) Missoni_001_1366.320x480 Missoni_003_1366.450x675

The beautiful way that the pattern wraps its way around the body, referencing the wonderful way that fabric is knit together. The chevron pattern on the coat is incredible, a snap to the basic black or grey. I wish I had one now!

The pleated (is that a real print or a pleat? alternating stripes make pleats new and exciting) skirts are amazing, hitting right at he knee with just enough flare. A skirt and a sweater can take you anywhere, mark my words.

Oh, to be a girl with a black card!

they hatin’ on Karl, yo! Or why Chanel’s pre-fall collection is brills x10

For some strange reason, maybe because there are so many uninformed people in fashion right now, there are constant screams of racism where none exists. Karl Lagerfeld is in the hot seat right now, excoriated for his western themed pre-fall 2014 collection, and there’s no reason for it. Except maybe the jealousy felt by non-creative people when faced with brilliance?

This collection is EVERYTHING. The clothes are absolutely beautiful and update the beautiful ideas of this timeless and exciting country. The American West was all petticoats, and fringe, bonnets and cowboy boots. There were cowboys and Indians. There were prairies (still are) and mountain ranges (we still have those, too).

Chanel_022_1366.450x675 Chanel_021_1366.450x675

Having traveled into the Western states and been lucky enough to wander through some thrift/vintage stores out there- these clothes are a richer, luxer way of expressing the boldness and freedom of true pioneer style.I mean- did no one see True Grit?  It’s Texas plus Paris, Montana plus Montmartre. I die a thousand deaths just looking at the photos…

Chanel_005_1366.450x675 Chanel_001_1366.450x675 Chanel_004_1366.450x675

All those boring little people shopping at Forever 21 for knockoffs can bite it. Chanel’s pre-fall collection is a triumph. You just mad cuz you can’t have it.

I went to Urban Zen Marketplace, saw some amazingly beautiful things and met Donna Karan

There’s nothing like a good fashion invitation. No matter what it’s for, you still feel tha heady feeling of being chosen. No matter where it is- you’re on the list!

This time, I got invited to preview the Urban Zen Holiday Marketplace. The marketplace was all about sustainable and charitable giving. Exotic, handcrafted, original items from all over the world, each company chosen for their philanthropic footprint.

I will tell you now that Donna Karan is probably taller than you think she is. She has a perma tan and a perma smile. She pays attention to people and seems to genuinely care about what you say. She makes awesome pronouncements- like ‘I’m so over clothes! It’s all about scarves…’ and starts  pulling lusciously colorful Sheila Johnson Collection scarves from a display and wraps one around her neck. I was in awe, but I was also like- “Can you adopt me?”

These are some of the pieces I saw:

Shelia Johnson Collection scarves- amazing photographs print on silk scarves, proceeeds help the Lady Salamander soccer team. brass_cuff_standing

Caliber Collection  is made from actual handguns, collected from the streets and turned into jewelery

carinilang feedbag

Carini Lang’s brilliantly colored rugs, Feed– buy a bag, feed the hungry

This bag used to be a fire hose… reclamation for a more stylish world by Elvis & Kresse

J’adore these beautifully embroidered keychains by Haitian Artisan Pascale Theard. A true folk artist…

The Urban Zen Holiday Market will be open 7 days a week until December 31st.  The address is 705 Greenwich Street, and the hours are:

Monday to Wednesday 10am to 6pm, Thursday 10am to  7pm, Saturday 11am to 6pm, Sunday 12pm to 5pm.
