NYFW: in which we talk about who was backstage with Aveda and drop Giuliana Rancic’s name

Osklen, 9/12:osklen7        Hands down, the best outfit of the day (off the runway of, course!) Samantha Metell of Bonjour Blue            wore a medley of sizzling fall neutrals with a pop of white. Stunning, simple. You could be her in ten           minutes flat.

Tibi, 9/12:tibi It was so insane back there! People talking, filming and milling about and it was a tight fit just to get to the lunch table. I just snatched a few inspiring tidbits, but my fave was the girl in photo 2. She’s so Lily van der Woodsen! Again, a look you could do in a snap- dress, heels, if hair is long part it and pull it back, if short part it and smooth your edges down.

Chiara Boni/La Petite Robe, 9/16: cbstyle Oh, you’re into off-duty model style? Here’s a ton. It’s the throwaway gesture, as in you’re wearing jorts and a tshirt- but the tshirt is Kenzo type of thing. And don’t forget your phone for mid-beauty transformation selfies.

cbstyle2Do not adjust your screen! That’s the real color of the Chiara Boni creation sported by this backstage visitor. It just shows how beautifully La Petite Robe cuts their garments. She looks fantastic- and check out those flash colored mule sandals! Much more practical than stilettos, and still elongating the leg. Gorgeous. And? So simple! A dress, a necklace, some shoes. And she had no makeup on, just a glow. Pregnancy goals, anyone?

Public School NYC, 9/13:

I saved this one for last because so much happened.psstyle1

Tomboy style, no frills, cool girl without trying. I kept thinking the girl in photo 1 was Cara Delavigne, but how do you ask that without looking insane? She was just hanging out, so I let that go. Either way, I loved her muscle shirt and relaxed black pants. Pairing a white, starchy button down with soft cutoff grey sweats? Genius. But the pink sneakers made that look for me. Model Tami Williams kept it simple- but had a fabulous jacket in photo 3. psstyle2The denim vibe was soft, washed light colored and probably the best and lightest denim. Love the distressing at the shoulders on the model in photo 1. Also, check out the shoes in photos 2 and 3! Two toned shoes, a classic wingtip oxford and what looked to be a slip on loafer. Also take note of the pocket square in photo 2. The details are what take denim from everyday to stellar.psstyle3I was noticing the colored pants thing. The light salmon pink on the model in photo 1, then the bolder, darker hue on the girl in 2 and 3. Also, they both paired their pants with black and white, so that’s something any of us can do.psstyle4Black with white equals grey… Things I noted: the cap sleeved coat in photo 1 and the commitment to black and white throughout photographer Aaron Salerna’s outfit. The stripes on his sleeves echo the stripes on his sneakers, but subtly. I died for the dust-colored tunic with black patch pockets in photo 3. It would be a dress for me, with cute tights and boots.  psstyle5Grey and black take on the slouchy tomboy look, with selfie stick. This model was walking around talking animatedly to her camera and having a fine time all by herself. You gotta get that vlogging done! psstyle6More black than white, this sleek, fitted black shirt dress was is known as everything. It looks great, and again, this would take ten minutes to throw on. The little navy blazer with striped cuffs was a darling touch, and I think she’s wearing combat boots. Nice.psstyle7The all black everything award goes to Public School/DKNY designer Maxwell Osborne and his noir clad female counterpart Giuliana Rancic. She was so nice. I was trying to catch a snap while she posed for someone else, but my timing was off. When I asked her for a photo, she graciously posed. She is insanely beautiful in person. Her makeup was flaw…less. After posing, she was gone with a gentle swirl of her cape and I was like, aaaaahhhh! Fashion Police takeover!

NYFW: in which we go backstage with Aveda for Public School and it was all Piero, Tami and Lamenka back there

ps1So, my third backstage assignment with Aveda was at NYFW ground zero, Moynihan Station for Public School NYC. I am pleased to announce that not only did I manage to get up early and get there on time, but I also managed to dress appropriately. Score one for me!  ps2Once admitted backstage, there was a long, mazelike hallway to traverse. I kept wondering how big the set must be for us to have to walk so far to get backstage.  ps4

ps3It was backstage madness times ten as the Aveda team did hair, Maybelline ‘beat face’ and the Deborah Lippman people painted nails in preparation for the show.  ps3aAveda Global Artistic Director for Hair Styling, Allen Ruiz was crafting the perfect look for the nomadic, adventurous Public School NYC girl. A look as comfortable strolling through remote mountain villages as it would be sipping champagne in Paris.  ps5The sleek, twisted ponytail is a simple chic look that can take you anywhere. See the Trend Report at the end of this post for products and instructions. ps6Backstage product stars were Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Cream and Brilliant Retexturing Gel for smooth, shining style.ps7

psfinallooktippishorterI found out that the girl getting her hair done by Tippi Shorter who is Aveda’s Global Artistic Director, Textured Hair was Lameka Fox. Who? Only one of those girls touted to be the next big thing. She was really nice, too. I talked to her later and she said she was really excited to do the show. If I hadn’t picked up this copy of The Impression outside after the show, I would not have known how huge she is.

Stars, they’re so down to earth. ps8

ps9There was no mercy for the boys either- they were also getting makeup, hair and nails done. The curly haired guy in photo 1 is Piero Mendez, who’s basically the biggest male model walking the planet right now. I didn’t know that at the time, I was too busy running around. ps91

ps92I managed to get breakfast was spicy, crispy, curly papadams, raspberry scones and blueberry corn muffins from The City Bakery, and I almost got to eat it but every time I turned around something was in front of me that I had to take a photo of. I got a few bites of everything, but eventually my breakfast was thrown out…which means there will be a future blog post in which we visit The City Bakery.ps93This is when I lost my breakfast; Maxwell Osborne, half of Public School NYC came out of the dressing area and I had to stalk him.

Worth it.

psfinallookHere’s model Tami Williams (you saw her in Vogue, Elle, she’s everywhere…) on the runway wearing Public School NYC ss2016. Chic, sleek, simple.

This is everything you need to get the look. I love the idea of taking the twisted ponytail and making a twisty bun, don’t you?

NYFW: in which we go backstage with Aveda’s hair team at Tibi and Bobbi Brown was there

tibi1After the Osklen backstage transformations were documented, I raced over to 12th Avenue to see what was going on at Aveda’s Tibi headquarters. After checking in, it was straight backstage to see what was going on. tibi3 Aveda’s hair team leader was award winning hair designer Frank Rizzieri who created a cool girls style to reflect the laidback wanderlust of the Tibi girl. The hair was loose, with a slight bend near the ears and a bit of Aveda Shampure dry shampoo to add texture and a bump of volume at the crown. You’ll have instructions on how to get the look at the end of this post. tibi2aHair products and tools everywhere! The stars of backstage were Aveda’s Thickening Tonic spray, Shampure dry shampoo, Pure Abundance style prep and Control Force hairspray. tibi4

tibi5I ran over to catch what was going on in the nail area, where JINsoon was feverishly painting on a pastel spring palette with a twist. The nail was almost bare, with the color at the nail tip. See the nail art on @jinsoon.tibi7

tibi6

I wandered over to the makeup area and Bobbi Brown was actually there painting models. That was a huge thrill. tibi2I was lucky enough to get a live demo of Frank Rizzieri showing off how he diid the cool girl hair look for the show on Kristina from Houston’s Pretty Shiny Sparkly blog. tibi8The backstage lunch spread from City Bakery featuring to die for cookies and fresh fruit…tibi9There were mini-wraps and sandwiches, nuts and bottles of fresh NYC tap water in Vapur bottles with the Aveda label. After a full morning of backstage beauty, it was definitely time for lunch. tibilookHere’s the finished hair/makeup look striding down the Tibi runway. You can see the whole collection here.
