This is it! We made it through one more year, and now have to get ready to sweep it away and make a clean slate for 2016. Whether you’re going out on the town or staying in, a new year is an opportunity to get ready for.
And an excuse to drink prosecco.
Here are my tips for getting through NYE with style:
I got some late deliveries that just missed the Holiday Gift Guide but are right on time for getting NYE cute.
- Cake Beauty sent over be Delectable strawberry & cream Decadent Hair & Body Mist, and a tube of vanilla & cream Supremely Rich Body Wash Both are $10 and a sweet way to scent your NYE look.
- Lucky, lucky me to get a box of fragrant goodies from Thymes! I can honestly say that I’m dying over the Kimono Rose rollerball ($19). It’s the type of fragrance that will have him hovering around all night. Pretty, soft, feminine and long lasting. I’m also enthused over the Aqua Coraline Body Wash ($21), a fresh scent with notes of cyclamen, yuzu, and Hinoki wood. And the scent of the Tupelo Lemongrass Body Lotion ($25) is as intoxicating as the luxurious lotions effect on your skin.
Love these colors from CND Vinylux. Sexy, sassy and fun. Reds in Hollywood and Tartan Punk, a metallic Peacock Plume blue or go full on metallic with smokey Grommet or shimmery Silver Chrome are on trend for end of the year nail looks. Just make sure you put a topcoat on, though, to get mileage out of your manicure.
Experiment with your makeup. It’s NYE, take a chance on something different, whether it’s false eyelashes, a winged eye, or funky lipstick. Or, conversely if you always pile it on…try a no makeup makeup look. Make those instagrams count for the new you in the new year.
A mini dress trumps everything. Ask that basketball player that got robbed. The gold brocade cocktail mini with back cutout is a retro riff on the party dress. The maroon and white damask print halter dress has a blingy self belt that defines your waist, the contrasting seaming outlines your curves, and the hemline stays put through walking and dancing. This black, long-sleeved body con dress with gold print is deceptively modest ( and inspired by Kim K. Show a little skin or a lot, but legs for days is a great look, and a dress takes two seconds to slip on. Keep it simple, ladies!
Shoes? No matter the heel height or thickness, just make sure they pop. I adore these studded booties, the stacked heel is super comfy and the wine color is perfect. These gold and caramel leather Enzo Angiolini ankle strap pumps. The grey faux suede stilettos? I can’t lie, wore them once and the pain was so worth the enhanced height and the feeling of sexy swagger. Just make sure you have some place t perch and twirl your ankle…
I am suggesting a fur, wherever you can find one. It got this one at the thrift store for $15. I knew it was meant for me, because I actually ran out of cash, had to run home, didn’t get back til the next morning and it was STILL THERE. And I can wear it with jeans or with a dress. And it’s actually warm. And did I mention furs are in?
Stay home and make these Red Pepper Popcorn Scallop treats. I found packets of tiny scallops at the store and came up with this way of serving them. Rinse and dry the scallops. Mix flour, red pepper flakes, sea salt and pepper together in a bowl and set aside. NOW. Pour enough vegetable oil into a skillet to cover the bottom and create an oily lake. Heat until a piece of bread dropped in turns brown.
Now roll the scallops in the flour until the flour and spices adhere in a more or less even coating. Carefully add the scallops to the hot oil and agitate the pan as they brown. It doesn’t’t take long, so you don’t want to walk away from the pan. Remove the scallops from the oil with a slotted spoon and place in a parchment lined ramekin serving dish and squeeze lemon juice over them. Serve with prosecco while flirting outrageously.
Buy a Feya candle to give back to others who don’t have it as lucky as you and make sure you light it before 12. Smile because by buying that candle you feed a fellow human being. Cool, right?
Happy New Year’s Eve, no matter how loudly or quietly you decide to ring it in.

Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Goes To Cat Footwear Event And Has Moonshine (#Earthmover) #Girlonthego

That’s me in the headwrap, at the Cat Footwear aw2013 show I was at the library working on a story for my NY Fashion and Trends Examiner column when I got a message that there was a fashion event going on in Brooklyn. Being me, not looking my best was no deterrent from saying yes. I have that confidence going for me.
Chris Onseung and Ashley Rudolph, Kings County Distillery spirit gift set, goodies! The event was held at the Kings County Distillery, a gorgeous building full of history. The shoes and boots were scattered around the room, so it was kind of like a fashion-themed easter egg hunt.
The ‘Ashlyne‘, a sophisticated wedge style boot made for city streets. In additional to the usual catwalkers, Cat featured people they call ‘Earthmovers’, people who are working to make a difference in the world they live in. Like Alexi Panos and Tennille Armor- they started E.P.I.C, and are currently focusing on the clean water challenge.
Alexi Panos in the ‘Marin’ boot while Tennile sports a cordovan red ‘Corrine’ style. We were also treated to a surprise performance by country singer Tyler Hilton, who looked gorgeous in Agave denimshirt and jeans, which all he models wore. He sang two songs, from his new cd ‘Forget the Storm’.
Tyler Hilton with Danielle Zizak, Cat Footwear’s Vice President of Global Marketing On the trolley back (yes, there was a trolley just for us!) I got to sit next to the Ashley and Brett, who were both in the show. Now that’s fashion…

Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Attends The Women Helping Women Fundraising Luncheon And Meets Selita Ebanks.
by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Nov 21, 2013
Eboni Gates, William Cummings and Bernt Heiberg, and Selita Ebanks It was one of those days where you have to pinch yourself, and then blink a few times to be believe your good fortune. Last week, I was invited to attend the Voss Foundation’s Fourth Annual Women Helping Women fundraising luncheon. Held at the gorgeous Dream Downtown hotel, the foundation recreated their online African Bazaar to raise money for wells in sub-saharan Africa.
Guests were handed glasses of Solletico Prosecco as they wandered through the tables laden with beautifully produced goods from Liberia, Swaziland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya.
Kara Gerson, Executive Director of the Voss Foundation, Bonnie Young totebags. Selita Ebanks (the Women Helping Women honoree for 2012) was on hand to provide opening and closing remarks. Her rousing speech encouraged the audience to give, while gently poking fun of her own career modeling underwear for Victoria’s Secret. She wore a snowy white, wide-legged jumpsuit designed by Carlos Miele.
Yum: edamame ravioli, vegan wrap with root veggie chips, greek yogurt cheesecake. As guests ate, Kara addressed the struggle to find water in Africa: “Voss Foundation sees access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene as a means to enable community-driven development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our philosophy is to look at the Ripple Effect of clean water – to see the many ways it can impact a community when we work with partners and beneficiaries to maintain the projects for years after implementation, to ensure sustainability,” said Kara Gerson, Executive Director, Voss Foundation. “One drop of water expands in all directions – by building wells and sanitation facilities we help the community improve its collective health, hygiene, education, finances, security, and relieve women and children, especially, of the burden of walking miles a day to collect water.”
Kara Geson, Deborah Hughes, Selita Ebanks Gate ‘Maya’ Haile Samuelsson, wife of chef Marcus Samuelsson, was designates as this year’s Women Helping Women Honoree. Although she couldn’t attend, the Vogue model’s efforts as founder of the Three Goats Foundation were roundly appreciated. Her foundation serves to give the people of Ethiopia the health services and development they so sorely need. I’m so lucky (no pun intended, lol!) to have been able to see and do so many wonderful things. It’s sad to lose Lucky Community, but I’m so very glad that I had a chance to be part of it. Long live sassy Ethnic Bohemian! xoxo, Faith/Sassy Ethnic Bohemian
