in which we get many, many, many deliveries… and LOVE it

Oh the joys of a new season! It’s the time that the emails start flying for roundups, personal style posts, photoshoots… It’s the time when I spend all day in the window looking out for UPS and Fedex. It’s spring!!! Let’s look at what the delivery man dropped off!

Beauty:

beauty instawave instr beauty yardley

I recently received an InstaWave curling iron- which I’ll be using for an upcoming Spring Style photoshoot (shhh! top secret!). It helps you create those long, beachy waves without fuss and stress. I love love love soap, so a shipment of Yardley Artisan Soap (in oat milk & honey and lavender & rosemary scents) was a welcome addition to the bath beauty drawer. Coincidentally, the soap came with the Instrumental Beauty Home Spa Treatment System, which we’ve already reviewed (thumbs up!).

beauty completely bare

I went to the Completey Bare Market around Valentine’s Day and got curious about home hair removal. there’s a product review coming up but I can tell you now: start saving your money and wax at home. It’s not that hard.

Makeup:

makeup kavd mfe

More makeup that I could ever use? Not so much! Spring and Summer demand new looks and I was lucky enough to hook up with Makeup Forever to update my makeup bag. And believe me, we’ll be talking about EVERYTHING over the next two seasons.

I do want to mention some things right now, like the Equalizer Primers for skin probs and radiance- I got the smoothing and hydrating primers and they are wonderful. Also? The super bright new Aquamatic Irridescent Blue waterproof eyeshadow pencil– you need this. The New York Times T Magazine has a video tutorial on how to work bold eyeliner:

Skin Deep: Bold Liners

and recently Anna Camp went to the MTV Awards with a bold eye look created by Melanie Inglessis with Makeup Forever products. her inspiration? “I wanted to create a makeup look that would match Anna’s vibrant and fun dress, while giving a nod to the 60s with a modern twist.”

You also went to get in on the Kat von D perfect matte lipstick, Underage Red, ironically priced at $21(it’s legal!). Just saying it adds a little frisson of controversy to the day!

Fragrance:

fragrance fiori bella poppy wildflower

When you wish for fragrance and it comes dancing to the door… I’m working on a spring fragrance roundup and managed to have these sent over: fiori and bella from Vince Camuto, Poppy Wildflower from Coach and Be Delicious from DKNY. Mmmm, can you smell your fragrance future?

home clean perfume

I won’t even open these Clean Perfume products in Warm Cotton (reed diffuser, room spray, and candle) until my home decorating project is done. But I HAVE opened the perfume rollerball, and it’s lovely. It smells clean, fresh, and sort of comforting.

Clothing:

home southern tide

When I met Southern Tide president Allen Stephenson at a press preview last month, I thought it he was just selling clothes. Then? I found out that old boy was selling EVERYTHING.  Southern Tide is a lifestyle brand, the best one that you may not have heard of. Everything that they sent was made right here in the US- shopped from Greenville, SC.

I admit to getting out of hand- but a woman with a home decorating project has to be ruthless. I just opened the Performance Towel set for my bathroom springcleaning refresh- and out came soft terrycloth towels- and handtowels and washcloths. Behold the Towel Tower!

clothing southerntide

Don’t worry- we’ll be talking about the clothes pretty soon. In fact? You can see how the women’s Summer Cardigan works with animal print in this Lucky Shops Community post. So cute.

clothing ll bean

In keeping with my American Brand fetish- I snagged some choice pieces from LL Bean Signature (also featured in the latest Lucky post). I felt like the Signature Check Chambray was a real must have. The navy and red striped poplin fit and flare dress? Do I even have to say anything?

clothing amiclubwear accessories amiclubwear

Remember this romper from my Pastels Lucky post? It came all rolled up in a box with this faux leather lock tote and crazy coral and gold booties. Fancy is not the word, darling! I could put on all three on a summer day and prance.

Accessories:

accessories tommy bahama lucky

Loved when this mint green infinity scarf showed up as my Lucky magazine subscription gift. Look how it matches this Tommy Bahama beach towel? Sigh… The beach is in my future, y’all!

accessories ume drive bracelets

I have told you and told you about the Ume Drive bracelets from the time that I met CEO Clem Harrigan at a fashion event. They were sweet enough to send over two more- and I have to be honest: I was going to do a giveaway, but I would rather keep them Go to www.umedrive.com and get your own. And get a lot, because you’ll be color coding your data to which USB bracelet you’re wearing that day.

accessories sjr rpnola cat

My birthday came and so did these most awesome prezzies. This sweet, delicate zodiac sign necklace is from one of my faves, Shop Jacqueline Rose (a fellow Aries) and it is my new everyday necklace. After sending me Christmas stockings and Hot Mess skincare products, Traci Claussen of REpurposing NOLA hauled off and MADE me a bag. Yep- just for me. I LOVE her.

Cat Footwear came through ON my birthday with these hot hot Squander boots, and they instantly became my new combat boot. I’ll be running these all spring and summer.

Ok- we’re all caught up – at least on deliveries. I have felt so guilty about not posting about these!!! There are lots of fun posts in the works, so you will be seeing and learning more about this stuff, so stay tuned.

#TBT: Sassy Ethnic Bohemian says goodbye to Lucky Community

So, on June 18th of the year 2013 I gave birth to my baby sassy Ethnic Bohemian. No ordinary child, sassy came walking and talking and styling herself in headwraps and peasant blouses. From the beginning, sassy was endearing, funny, and always happy to overshare. Once she was old enough to live on her own, I decided to give her a home her on WordPress where she has flourishd and gown into- well, a blog that covers more than just what pair of shorts she’s wearing today. Untitled Lucky Community, Sassy’s birth home, is being torn down to make way for Lucky Shops. Sadness. So I decided to put up a few of my personal favorite early posts. ********************************************************************************************************************

#Printsandpatterns Summer Selfie Session: Sassy Ethnic Bohemian

I was looking for a photo of myself and realized with a shock that I hadn’t bothered to take one in 6 months. Not since last winter! Today I had to dress myself down and do a selfie session (that sound naughty, doesn’t it?) Here were the results: I grabbed my fave cutoff shorts ($5), a white peasant top with blue embroidery around the collar and waistline ($3.99), and threw on my favorite boyfriend cardigan from Banana Republic. I was feeling kind of feisty, so I also threw on my favorite bead necklace by Beads for Life The glasses are from St. Marks Place, $8, and the ring I found in the street one day (honestly!). The bag comes from H&M, I bught it on sale for $10. Voila! An easy look that I can wear throughout a creative summer day with no stress. My favorite part is the June Ambrose-ian head wrap. It feels jaunty and hides the fact that I’m moisturizing my hair today. The scarf was from a table in Soho, $5. #printsandpatterns *****************************************************************************************************************

#PrintsandPatterns Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Goes To Etsy Craft Party And Plymouth Church

Summer is harsh on my natural hair, so when it’s really hot I cover up wit a scarf. Thus was ‘sassy ethnic bohemian’ born. The headscarf changes my whole look, and makes me feel like I’m playing a character. This week, Sassy Bohemian Ethnic was everywhere. 326036e624fd22d1d86679da524d0c2a74472901 At Etsy’s Craft Party on June 20th. That’s my puppet! First I went to Etsy’s Craft Party They invited crafters to come out to Brooklyn Bridge Park to make puppets for the Children’s Aid Society. I don’t sew, but I gave it a shot anyway. Luckily for me there was a sewing machine station to make my puppet perfect. I wore my favorite black and white patterned scarf as a headwrap, and an Liz Claiborne open weave summer-weight sweater. The silver grey harem pants came from a place called Pretty Girl and the tusk necklace isForever 21 . c6d55d15af6ce283806bff1f5c84d13c705d49a3 Yes, that is an actual piece of the Plymouth Rock! As I was walking home from the Etsy event, I passed the lovely Plymouth Church I decided to go back for services on Sunday, and ended up wearing my favorite summer dress. 009a6f707ea6c5e13e9f08be7f2c7897ccbe96ad Going to church…African beads replace pearls. It’s by some company called Theme, and I like it because it’s appropriate and has a retro feel. For color I used my Beads for Life necklace and a cheap faux leather belt that I got on 181st Street in Washington Heights. With my striped Kate Spadehandbag and plain black ballet flats, I felt simply elegant. b976db83033c3c76826cb47b060629ddb7790dae I always pass the Brooklyn Academy of Music on the way to the library. After church I changed into a strapless dress that I layered over a grey sport bra. One of those looks that we all put together and then pretend that we don’t. The fabric is light and airy and covered with tiny reflecting sequins. It cost $3.99 from a discount store last summer. The Marilyn Monroe sport bra was $7.99 for two at Marshall’s. ************************************************************************************************************************

Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Breaks Down And Wears A Muumuu (Channeling Mrs Roper) #Bargainstyle

by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Jun 29, 2013 was so hot the other day that I thought I was going to die of laziness. I could NOT get dressed or even think about putting clothes on my skin. It was hot. 249d4e684ad822eccc0a6a1d21ce4aaa43952ffe A knotted silk scarf is perfect for holding natural hair in place. So I dug around in last year’s gear and found a wonderful garment- the muumuu I bought for $5.99. I won’t even call it a maxi, because it’s not built like those dresses that Nicole Richie was wearing when Rachel Zoe was her stylist… and still wears now that she’s a designer herself. a2c7d5d9c37e09844d94b32dba64f406c33fe3a6 Nicole Richie working that maxi to death. This is a tent-like dress splashed with flowers that is made of lightweight cotton/poly designed to leave me feeling calm, cool, and sweatfree. Or at least, the sweat doesn’t soak the dress because it barely touches your body. 3b812df30baef9f91aa6897082cfc9fa65228b32 Everytime I wear it I think of Mrs. Roper from the 80s sitcom ‘Three’s Company’. Played by Audra Lindley, Mrs. Roper was a housewife with no real hobbies except dressing in caftans and muumuus and harassing Mr. Roper. She was awesome. (For some reason? This is a really popular post. It’s one of my top 5 most popular posts on Lucky Community). ***********************************************************************************************************************

A #Tomboystyle Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Episode

by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Jul 12, 2013

I fell asleep listening to the Buzzcocks and woke up wanting to wear my favorite plaid shirt. ac6fe8f35e0e6d8f5ea00aa012abb4dba7b533f9 Ignoring the heat I wore the shirt (which is a lightweight cotton button down that I got at Marshall’s when I was working there) over a loose nubbly tshirt that I’d gotten on clearance at Urban Outfitters. Even though I’m opposed to skinnies in the heat, I took a chance and wore my darkwash Forever 21 $10.99 skinnies because they look awesome cuffed. I finished the whole thing of with my $1.99 plastic skin toned sandals from the discount store on Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn a4b49651e1edd5ddb95edd7eddda89a5382bf2ad Inspirations: Salt n Pepa, Marc Jacobs grunge collection, that guy I see at the library a lot, and Drew Barrymore. b007f15bd90434c7d8e552b78a44eae13b07575d *********************************************************************************************************************

Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Stops By Lincoln Center,Wears Gold Lame #Girlonthego

by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Jul 30, 2013 I was looking for story ideas for my NY Movies examiner column and found out that Breaking Bad was going to be shown in it’s entirety at Lincoln Center here in New York for the low low price of ‘free.99’. I was out the door in no time. d8f2948baa6f58744ce554d52cf233602e09d6d7 Check out the manicure, ladies: Nars ‘Orgasm’, $18 at Sephora I decided on slack/rocker chic and got all sassified. Headwrap? Check. Fake Moscot frames? Check. Forever 21 tusk necklace? Check. Add to that the Guns n Roses tshirt and voluminous gold lame hi-low dress I got last summer and you’ve got an outfit. Finish with combat boots and those sheer striped mens socks that I got at Jack’s Discount store on 40th Street because they reminded me of something I saw in a magazine one time. I think it was a Prada ad or something. I used the belt from my dress as a neck’lace. I threw on my Banana Republic purse sweater for that grungy ‘je ne se quois’. **********************************************************************************************************************

Sassy Ethnic Bohemian And The No Good, Hot Mess, Terrible Day #Girlonthego

by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Jul 27, 2013 It was one of those days where you know that you’re going to be drenched before you walk a block. Just a high temperature, humidity soaring day where you also know that the library is a 15 minute walk away. So what do you do? Go hot mess early and do it without shame. a96bd78c8e6bb092f4c53d420defe4bcfed089cf At least I look happy, ok? I went with a pink silk scarf to cover my hair, a navy blueCalvin Klein combed cotton tshirt (so soft, but it’s actually too big for me. Oops.), and those Miley Cyrus/Max Azria camo jeans that I got at Walmart that time I was in Montana. I rolled them up to create knee length capris. (My bra is not showing on purpose, it just happened. HOWEVER? I liked my facial expression so I decided to just go with the flow. Also, it’s a wireless softbra from Uniqlo, just in case you wondered.) My ‘accessories’ are my Moscot-style fake glasses from St Marks Place, the thick leather belt I snagged from an ex boyfriend, and my $1.99 plastic sandals. let’s not talk about the state of my pedicure. TECHNICALLY it’s not a bad outfit. If you see it like this: 76b2bcfab0f9bfbbd9f8e9551da7b28506b04ea9 * I always carry a sweater in my bag. Right now it’s a nubby Banana Republic one in a sort of caramel color but I also love this gold Michael Kors pullover. 381bbd07ff1d17649468f0dcad378b381ea37fd8 *These leather ‘Athena’ sandals from Etienne Aigner could be my pricey update. They almost perfectly match my skin and look remarkably comfortable. dec077f647b3f6f7dd5a1cde74b078cdafe042a1 *If I finally get around to replacing my lost Scoop NYC stud earring, I’d get these Maykool skull ones and here’s a prettypink silk scarf from Ashore Ltd that could be my go-to headwrap. Hot mess can be ‘haute’ if you work it. ;-D ************************************************************************************************************************

d978101be88944e5b720072d9ff3ea124a6715cd Thanks to the Origins ‘Modern Friction‘ exfoliator sample I got at Birchbox’s NYFW blogger lounge, my skin was glowing. Stila ‘Stay All Day’ liquid lipstick in ‘Fiery’, also from Birchbox. Last night I was fortunate enough to attend the Origins‘Smarty Plants’ event at the JIMMY (the James Hotel’s rooftop lounge). It was amazing. I finally got to wear my black turtleneck and that J. Crew skirt that I got thrifting. by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Oct 11, 2013 b1915cb036cc575daab9d4ee1bfca1e668e2c14d That’s me in the headwrap, at the Cat Footwear aw2013 show I was at the library working on a story for my NY Fashion and Trends Examiner column when I got a message that there was a fashion event going on in Brooklyn. Being me, not looking my best was no deterrent from saying yes. I have that confidence going for me. 7114740da687050f288ee184fb56b45288077007 Chris Onseung and Ashley Rudolph, Kings County Distillery spirit gift set, goodies! The event was held at the Kings County Distillery, a gorgeous building full of history. The shoes and boots were scattered around the room, so it was kind of like a fashion-themed easter egg hunt. 204a3c76c428f92d48401cb0d526a9c0328fdce1 142d49a74f9be513f7fab0d73ea8b8fc2f467220 The ‘Ashlyne‘, a sophisticated wedge style boot made for city streets. In additional to the usual catwalkers, Cat featured people they call ‘Earthmovers’, people who are working to make a difference in the world they live in. Like Alexi Panos and Tennille Armor- they started E.P.I.C, and are currently focusing on the clean water challenge. 87f4f4de4eed7f08e58099ca5306efb7db864c0c Alexi Panos in the ‘Marin’ boot while Tennile sports a cordovan red ‘Corrine’ style. Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Wins A Social Media Contest And Gets To See The Beatles (Hardy Amies) #Girl On The Go

by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Oct 28, 2013

cfa3a66a89ea1b4ea00c47f1c05d70ff1cc42931 I’m on the step and repeat! Thanks to the awesome Le’Anne Moreau of Deborah Hughes Inc. Last week I was randomly tweeting when I found out that I had won a contest to go hang out with the Esquire crowd for the Beatles on Film panel discussion at the Paley Center for media. I love random things like that. They keep life magical. c923575681f7e69529f032275479e7382cce05e8 The Basil Smash and some love treats, I loved this girl’s Carnaby Street look. We had delicious cocktails made with Tanqueray gin and there were trays of delicious hors d’oeuvres passed around. I had way too many devilled eggs, because they were so good. The gave away copies of Esquire, and Albert Maysles (who made Grey Gardens and brought us Little Edie) was holding court and having his photo taken. You know, typical Wednesday night. 53e39381e4b2ab620c37f95305bde7eb1ba01fb3 a37492e4e4febc0656bdc3ee90e5372a3482ee75 b78a7f5da435ec348529b20e3c8889ea120fb4ce The panel: photographer Henry Grossman, collector John McKewen, filmmaker Albert Maysles, and Beatles historian Mark Lewison. I love the Beatles, so this was amazing fun. The pane was lively, and they were so enthusiastic about the film clips and images, that we all felt like we had met John, Paul, George, and Ringo ourselves. When we left they gave us brown Bloomingdale’s bags with Beatles songbooks and Hardy Amies pocket squares. Sweet.

Sassy Ethnic Bohemian Attends The Women Helping Women Fundraising Luncheon And Meets Selita Ebanks.

by Sassy Ethnic Bohemian on Nov 21, 2013 98a0f7d89c1c8b84297bfd11c8a888106c1dc972 Eboni Gates, William Cummings and Bernt Heiberg, and Selita Ebanks It was one of those days where you have to pinch yourself, and then blink a few times to be believe your good fortune. Last week, I was invited to attend the Voss Foundation’s Fourth Annual Women Helping Women fundraising luncheon. Held at the gorgeous Dream Downtown hotel, the foundation recreated their online African Bazaar to raise money for wells in sub-saharan Africa. ee3d3a9f6ab40c358bbf10f9ec230acf5d94605b 629c17ac2262d044de29838d9b3e5dddf01256bd Guests were handed glasses of Solletico Prosecco as they wandered through the tables laden with beautifully produced goods from Liberia, Swaziland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Kenya. f433749af7ea0185b2d1f51f682a438465eb2cce Kara Gerson, Executive Director of the Voss Foundation, Bonnie Young totebags. Selita Ebanks (the Women Helping Women honoree for 2012) was on hand to provide opening and closing remarks. Her rousing speech encouraged the audience to give, while gently poking fun of her own career modeling underwear for Victoria’s Secret. She wore a snowy white, wide-legged jumpsuit designed by Carlos Miele. 6e5b96c151a203e8efd214ec64e47327538a19a8 Yum: edamame ravioli, vegan wrap with root veggie chips, greek yogurt cheesecake. As guests ate, Kara addressed the struggle to find water in Africa: “Voss Foundation sees access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene as a means to enable community-driven development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our philosophy is to look at the Ripple Effect of clean water – to see the many ways it can impact a community when we work with partners and beneficiaries to maintain the projects for years after implementation, to ensure sustainability,” said Kara Gerson, Executive Director, Voss Foundation. “One drop of water expands in all directions – by building wells and sanitation facilities we help the community improve its collective health, hygiene, education, finances, security, and relieve women and children, especially, of the burden of walking miles a day to collect water.” e2c0cc8875920ce1f1a13df7678fedc775fbca7d Kara Geson, Deborah Hughes, Selita Ebanks Gate ‘Maya’ Haile Samuelsson, wife of chef Marcus Samuelsson, was designates as this year’s Women Helping Women Honoree. Although she couldn’t attend, the Vogue model’s efforts as founder of the Three Goats Foundation were roundly appreciated. Her foundation serves to give the people of Ethiopia the health services and development they so sorely need. To find out how to help, please go to www.thevossfoundation.org (All photos taken by Faith Bowman with the Fujifilm X-M1) ********************************************************************************************************************** As you can see, some of my favorite relationships started way back in that first year. I’m so lucky (no pun intended, lol!) to have been able to see and do so many wonderful things. It’s sad to lose Lucky Community, but I’m so very glad that I had a chance to be part of it. beauty, blogger, christmas, Fashion, First Anniversary, gifts

in which i go drop off presents, run to the Carlton Hotel, and see Corporate Catwalk at the X by Trollbeads event

So last Thursday was another marathon day for this stay at home blogger. I had made some goodies for my former intern boss Janine Just, and then had to run to a last minute event invite where I was meeting ‘that guy‘ and then go on to the Trollbeads store for an X by Trollbeads celebration.

It’s nice to feel wanted.

thursdayevents1

So first, I got a packed homemade candy, pecan turtle cookies, and one bowl of lemon pudding cake (so hard to part with that) in a Pinch Me box and got ready to drop it off at the Alley for my old internship crew. Why? Cuz they invite me places like CC Pop. Ya gotta show love to your pr people. Blogger’s best friends!

I dropped that off, and ran for the next event.

thursdayevents2

Just to backtrack a little- before I ran out I did a 5 minute mani with my Probelle nail lacquer. Two quick coats of love me, then vivid night on my uh ‘accent finger’ with a quick brush or titchy overcoat from butter LONDON.  I wore my usual layers, it was cold, adding my Nikki Poulos dress from my 1st Anniversary fete at Caravan Stylist Studio– because I was headed over to the Carlton Hotel for their holiday party featuring a  holiday bazaar in the Carlton Hotel lobby.

unnamed

Got my photo taken while sampling some Volvic water, so that was fun.

thursdayevents3

As a guest of Bullet Acne Aid, we enjoyed La Marca Prosecco, got our photo taken in the Tic Tac lounge, got bags full of goodies, and then we strolled through the lobby looking at what was on sale.

carlton7

i would like to take a moment to mention these pigs in a blanket with mustard sauce. I had 5 while that guy lingered by the cheese table. Then we had some So Delicious dairy free frozen treats.  Ten I had another pig in a blanket, because they rule.

thursdayevents4

Then we walked through the gently falling New York snow as strangers bumped into us repeatedly. It was so amazingly romantic. We were grateful for the warmth, prosecco and cookies at the X by Trollbeads event. At their store, nestled on 6th Avenue near 38th, guests were met by Olivia Jeanette of Corporate Catwalk, who showed off the X by Trollbeads Collection.

thursdayevents5

We hung out and looked at beads, mingling with guests like Nicky Dror of Four Eleven blog. I got to see the manager, Kim, who was super enthusiastic about the fact that Trollbeads might be adding another store soon.

eventhaul

After all that excitement, I went home to poke through my haul. I had bottles of Elderflower presse from Belvoir Farms, Simple products for sensitive skin, Zoya nail polish, Cottonelle cleansing cloths, and lots of Tic Tacs. I ate all my NA fruit snacks on the train home, and my friend gave me a bottle of wine for Christmas, which was nice. We’ve only known each other since August, so it’s not like I deserve a ring or anything.

thursdayevents6

Then I wiped off my ‘no makeup’ makeup look (which involves every product in the bathroom) and made myself a dinner of striped bass, spinach, and roasted breadfruit.

Next up: the time I went to the MacDella Cooper Foundation‘s Ebola Benefit

Accessories, boudoir, Fashion, glamour, holiday winter 2014 shopping, lingerie, sexy

a look back at josie natori’s pajama party and a look forward at the aw2014 holiday collection

Remember that time I told you about the pajama party at Josie Natori’s new boutique back in August? So I finally got caught up on all my folders and found these awesome photos:

josie1

Looks like everyone had a good time, right? There was a photo booth, they did origami, and had fortune cookies…josie2

And doesn’t that look like cans of Sofia Coppola sparkling wine to you? It does. I know those pink cans anywhere. josie3

It looks like Josie Natori stopped by and someone with really cute shoes as well. I missed it, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the memories.

259220A1-72EF-4449-883B-C9C3D5B8A6A3

Then I got invited to this- and of course ended up missing it for whatever reason. July was like that for me. I didn’t get back on my grind until August. Maybe I had a Saturn return or something. No matter what I did- I just never arrived anywhere.

Anyway, I was flipping through the Natori Holiday Gift Guide and decided that no matter what- I had a duty to bring this loveliness to the blog. I’ve been dying to do a lingerie post, and now here it is!

holidays1

This is enough to make you adore wearing a slip (or chemise, which is a much prettier word, right? These were my absolute favorite: 1. Boudoir Chemise $250 2. Lolita Chemise with Uneven Lace $250 3. Boudoir Chemise with Allover Lace $225.

holidays3

the reality of MBFW, the sassy perspective of things.

So, as we may have figured out, I am a person who loves fashion but stil remembers that I am a flesh and blood person. maybe because I worked behind the scenes as a student and had some actual experience in how shows and events are put together, I’m not as bowled over as other people. Or maybe I’m now a jaded new Yorker (again). In any case- I loved loved loved knowing that I had a right to go to some shows, but I also had some other concerns.

Like how not to sweat through whatever I was wearing. (Massive, nasty, humid, HEAT WAVE for ss2015 NYFW/MBFW *historical notation)

nyfwrecap1

The first festivity was the Befohr party at the Jimmy Lounge at the James Hotel in Soho- which you guys already read an account of here. The reality is spending the evening wanting to go swimming, then heading home on the subway and window shopping on Nostrand Avenue when the train dumps you out on Flatbush (3 stops from where you need to be). This bag is to die, isn’t it? Love.

nyfwrecap2

This is me out at the table burning the hell up, but determined to gauge customer reaction to the addition of mauby to the table menu. I even offered free tastes. I sold a few, then ran home to glue myself together to go to Lincoln center for the Desigual ss2015 show (we already reviewed that here). SOOOOO happy to get a little glamor in my life, lol! Woo hoo!nyfwrecap3

I managed to get into this striped Daisy Fuentes for Kohl’s dress (which I had wanted since I saw it at the Fall Press Preview). I wore some cool pieces from Shop Jacqueline Rose (the illumination hand chain, the green oasis bracelet, and the black buddha mala for prosperity), and I made sure to carry my ParMana Designs Dream Awake shoulder bag. I love carrying things from people I know and like. It’s like having friends with me.

nyfwrecap4

After the show, there’s a mad rush- some towards the front row celebs, some trying to get backstage and some (like me) trying to go get some free beverages. These are just little moments that struck me on the way out. Nothing amazing, just images that brought things back down to a human persepctive after watching Adriana Lima bounce down the runway.

nyfwrecap5

I was photographing the SK-II installation and wondering if I could grab a bottle and run, when they offered to do something or other to my skin. As soon as I knew that there was a present involved I went for it. It was nice! The lady took my photo with some kind of tablet (it was a cute pic, wish I still had it, actually) and told me nice things about my skin. Then she gave me an SK-II pitera essence mask which I am still hoarding. I liked it, so if I have a sudden attack of aging, I’m set.

Then I just wandered around getting things. I got a card from the Papyrus kiosk (same guy as last year, but I guess the better location went to his head. He didn’t let me pick my card this season. he was nicer when he was way in the back and nobody paid attention to him). I checked out the Pandora spot, grabbed a bunch of reading material, stopped to gawk at the E! television set, and gawped over the pretty lit up dress on the Mercedes Benz stage. And thanks to the nice girl at Tresemme with the shiny hair who gave me the whole product spiel. I heart you!

nyfwrecap9 nyfwrecap91 nyfwrecap92

After that I did a little streetsyle. I was back to skulking, it’s too hard to approach people at the tents and I wasn’t really that interested- I just wanted t make sure I had a few things for the blog. A lady had on a silver foil pleated skirt that was like ice in the sun.

nyfwrecap93 nyfwrecap94

Then I went to the Met Opera Shop and picked up schedules for the new season. So many things I’d like to see! I haven’t been to the opera in a while- but check out my first visit here. I made sure to take a few photos of the fountain, and all the stuff I got. I know a lot of people don’t care about ‘the perks of blogging’, but I’m a results oriented person who needs rewards. Sorry. Also, I give stuff away. But for real- if they didn’t give me anything to keep… lol! my greedy ass would prob stay home. And people who say they don’t care are lying.

The next day I took my Desigual wallet/clutch to McDonald’s for my morning wi-fi and breakfast break.

nyfwrecap95

This is me the next day, back at my table. I’m wearing my fave BDG tshirt (cleavage looks perfs in it) as well as my usual bracelets and my new favorite skirt ever from Life is good. See that face? Fashion withdrawal. This was the last day I sat outside selling anything because MBFW makes everything else look small boring, and ugly by comparison. I don’t hate my business and I’m glad I spent the summer doing it, but now I felt like I needed to do better. Bigger. PRETTIER! Later.nyfwrecap96

I couldn’t wait to go to the Katty Xiomara show at Nolcha Fashion Week (see my review). I found a cute little lingerie shop to keep in mind for later, and after the show got some cool skincare samples from Adrian London. There was some moisturizer for men, but the boo doesn’t do skincare (yet.) so I’ve been using it on my hands and feet.

nyfwrecap97

After the skincare was secured (and an otter box iphone case which we may be discussing soon- shhhh! giveaway! shhhh!) it was time for drinkies. I got a Dasani and Don Q rum cocktail, a glass of sparkling (delicious) rose from Franciacorta, and some sorrel wine from Bellaforma. After that I was straight. Strolled home with my nose in the air, too cute for the rest of the world. Yep. I said that.

nyfwrecap98

I had a few days to rest and then I got an amazing invite from Red Door Spas to go BACKSTAGE (you guys heard all about this already… in 3 parts).  It was insane, and fun, and I got so many photos! It was the best.

nyfwrecap99

I had one last invitation, from a small designer named Indigo Apparel. I got myself together- but MBFW was over so… I did my super casual journalist look: Life is good plush terry sweatshirt. LL Bean true shape jeans, armful of pretties and my black buddha mala necklace. Threw on my Freeport field jacket and slouchy floral backpack for fun- even though it was still a little hot.

nyfwrecap991Ran for the train, made into the city, saw this amazing view from the top of the Empire Hotel– and then went home. It was crazy crowded, no one knew where or when the show was starting, and well- no open bar? Hmm.

I gotta go.

Next up: In which I go to Shake Shack with my little brother (Yes.) Stay tuned!

august recap continued… deliveries! aw2014 goodies from Life is good, LL Bean and Shop Jacqueline Rose Jewelry

You know how much I love deliveries, and August was chock full of them. I met some amazing people at Life is good back in June, and loved them so much that I had to have some items from their fall merchandise.

lifeisgood1

First off, the box was amazingly well packed. No packing materials, just everything neatly folded in a box that held everything snugly. No waste. Which is what you’d expect from a company that donates 10% of its net proceeds to charities that help troubled kids.

I fell in love with this All Together Now crusher tshirt (the neon colors made me think of Warhol) and this supersoft and plush Women’s Terry Beach Hoodie, which I tried on at the event and begged for. there is nothing like good quality clothing. I know that these pieces are going to last forever.

Everything was so soft, so comfortable, and so well made! I asked for the sapphire blue Men’s Hoodie Tee because I loved the color and the orange contrast stitching and hoodie strings. The terry beach hoodie, goes perfectly with my new grey sweatpants and the Vintage Denim Popover works with skirts, jeans or leggings. My fave? The Novella Skirt in deepest plum with a contrasting grey kickpleat. I LOVE this skirt. I can pull it on and look cute in about ten seconds. Oh, and don’t forget the adorableness that is the slouchy floral knapsack… big enough for books, groceries, an extra outfit? I wore this knapsack and the Women’s Love Creamy Henley Tee to the DKNY MYNY event in August, with memorable results.

I had barely finished trying on my new Life is good stuff, LL Bean sent over a delicious box of treats. The venerable American retailer is actually a treasure trove of cool pieces that any fashion savvy city dweller would love to own. Case in point? This Freeport Field Jacket. It’s feather light, and so perfect for layering, has an adjustable waist, and a zippered pocket on both sides for phone and change purse.

These tumbled leather Lounger Boots are way cooler than Uggs and just as ridiculously luxurious. That’s lamb’s fur inside. So soft. And it has the added attraction of being waterproof, with a rugged sole stamped with a chain pattern for traction. And, like the boots, the Signature 3/4 belt in Golden Guide yellow leather is so soft, it’s like buttah.

The LL Bean True Shape 5 Pocket Jean in slim fit? Uh-mazing. They actually come to your real waist, which is more flattering that low-rise. The back pockets are nice and clean and sit right on your butt. I love these jeans- they’re stretchy and comfortable, but I stand a little straighter because of the waist and that makes  me look a tiny but slimmer. You can tuck a shirt into these, and not have it flapping every time you sit down. You don’t have to worry about your panties showing, either.

And they’re comfortable- did I say that?

bean3

Cotton/cashmere Birdseye sweater. Soft, comfy, and yet you can do a little styling with this (as you’ll see later on this blog). You can put a shirt underneath, wear a down vest in a bright red or orange with it. Wear it with sweatpants, skirts, jeans, and when the spring comes you can pair it with shorts.

The last delivery, just in time for NYFW was from jewelry designer Jacqueline Ranieri of the ShopJacquelineRose website. I randomly dropped in on a #JewelryChat one day on twitter and Jacqueline contacted me later on asking to work with me. I was thrilled! her pieces are made in New York, and her path to Enlightenment collection is all about fostering inner peace and being conscious of the forces in the world that surround us. It’s jewelry that not only adorns, but heals.

Jacqueline not only donated her Eternal Flame stackable bracelet set for my MYNY/NYFW giveaway? She loaned me some great pieces to wear and style with for the blog- and let me keep a few for my own personal use. So sweet.

jacquelinerose2

I am deeply in love with the Ariel Charm Necklace (which I featured in my Dating Diary post last week). I got to wear the Illumination Hand Chain (a piece that actually corresponds with my birth sign) to NYFW, adding a little edge to my look. The Green Oasis bracelet has been on my arm almost permanently since I received it, balancing my solar plexus and heart chakras. The Black Buddha Mala for Prosperity is a symbol of abundance, power, and fortune and the little gilded horn in the pendant is for good luck.

Who doesn’t want that type of good energy when going to cut-throat fashion events?

Next up? Let’s go to NYFW! Photos and experiences from the Lincoln Center Tents and Nolcha Fashion Week.
