NYFW: the absolute last post about my Aveda backstage odyssey- the style diary

Day One:osklen 2 I manage to actually get up, but with barely enough time to get out of the house. So much for alarms. I made it to Industria a half hour after makeup and hair started. osklen 3 I got a stress fix hand massage, which was actually amazing. It was like drinking coffee. I felt a lot better afterward, my hands were kind of greasy though. osklen 1 This is me looking hangry because I left the studio to walk to the next event without grabbing a muffin. THEN it was too late to walk around and forage for food and too early to go to the next Aveda location. I just sat there and drank my water and thought about McDonald’s. This is my outfit, late chick chic. I grabbed my fave summer muumuu and my Gilligan hat first thing, then I filled in with this necklace from last year, my Ami Clubwear faux leather lock tote (looks like a Birkin, room for food and shoes), and my trusty slide on Squander boots from Cat Footwear. At least my feet didn’t hurt. osklen 2a  On my way from West 12th Street to 28th, I passed Milk Studios, the other great NYFW outpost. I passed Artists & Fleas, and remembered that I need to stop in there sometime. osklen 4 I sat in this amazing public sculpture while waiting t go over to the Tibi backstage event. It’s this huge sort of puzzle…osklen5But it has seats welded into it. It’s like plate tectonics brought to life. osklen6

After everything was over, I ate the lunch I scrounged from backstage and then I found this most awesome wooden box. It’s in my apartment right now. I put all my bags in it.

Day Two:ps ootd1I actually managed to get up and go to the track. I ran/walked for 2 miles and then it was time to go shower…ps ootd1aIt took all this to get ready. So, yeah, my outfit was a skirt and a blouse because now I have no time for any crazy outfits. I decided to use my Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, since it was a dry day with moderate temperatures. I can honestly say that it does not feel as if you have makeup on. It’s like air. ps ootd1bI had decided on an Afro with a sparkly headband after seeing that display in the window of Artists & Fleas. I also wanted to try out my Pro Beauty Tools 1875 W Ionic AC motor hair dryer. I wet my hair and then sprayed it with Aveda Thickening Tonic and made a bunch of pin curls. I dried them most of the way, then left them alone while I piled on makeup. As soon as I was one step away from being dressed, I hit my hair with a cool blast of air from my blow dryer.

After I let all the pin curls out, I decided to see if blowing air through the diffuser attachment would help. It was kind of like running your fingers through curls, so at the end of the day it all worked out. I smoothed Aveda Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss over the whole thing and was done.ps ootd2Why go to all that trouble? Because I was going to the show, as ball players say. Going straight to Moynihan Station where NYFW was holding court. It was one of those days where you wanted to be dressed for anything. And I was dressed for whatever Public School NYC could dish out. I even had flipflops in my bag.ps ootd2aSee? I might be blurry, but I’m THERE. And thanks to Still Standing foot spray I was finally getting to wear the Ami Clubwear floral peep toes that I’ve had since March. Can I admit to you that Ami Clubwear is my Forever 21? It’s cheap, fun and sexy. I can’t love them enough.ps ootd3Also, dressing up gave me the confidence to dare to hang around and squirm my way into seeing the show. There was a platform, kind of like the Givenchy arrangement, where people could stand and watch but not interfere with the fashion set. So I basically saw the same show as Andre Leon Talley, the guy wearing sunnies and all black in the front row.  I mean I was breathing in air that he had breathed.

So that was worth getting up early for.  ps ootd3aI downloaded these pics from Vogue Runway so you could see how cool the clothing was. Public School NYC did an amazing job of presenting an ss2016 collection that was eminently wearable. I die for the crocheted sweater with the thick black stripes. ps ootd4When I came blinking into the sunlight, some nice people asked me if I wanted a ride to Soho, and the next thing I knew I was in the back of an SUV with a goodie bag and scooping Jolly Ranchers out of the cupholder. Stylight was out in full force picking up random fashionistas and getting them from Milk Studios downtown to 34th Street while jamming to hot dance music. I admit to laughing when they played Sexy Back.ps ootd5

I didn’t have another show, so I ended up hanging out at this place Mariachi’s with another backstage girl. The chilaquiles are heaven. The red stuff is chorizo, and it was like bacon’s sassy sister. Yum. So I finally did a fashion blogger thing and had brunch! And a beer- a Bohemia beer, no less.

That’s Sassy, y’all.

Day Three:

Just when you think it’s over, they pull you back in! cb1

A last minute addition had me prepping to go backstage for the Chiara Boni/La Petit Robe show and I had already let myself slide since Sunday’s Public School show. I had to get back in the game with Mirai Clinical Purifying & Hydrating Face Wash and a quick Gin-Zing Refreshing Face Mask from Origins. I washed my hair with Be Curly Co-Wash and gave myself followed by the Be Curly Intensive Detangling Masque. Then the same steps as on Sunday.cb2This time I used the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Stick Foundation, which left my skin kind of dewy. I really just wanted to wear my overalls. I wanted a louche 90s look, a cross between a raver and those chicks from TLC.cb3 I freshened up my manicure with CND Vinylux Weekly Polish. every single color has sparkle to it. Those sandals are my fave Jasmine wedges from, of course, Ami Clubwear. cb4

I threw these Kale Krunch snacks in my bag, because you never know. They taste like Cheez Doodles, but they’re healthy. Which is mind-blowing. My new fave habit is to pack a clear purse with essentials, like a pen, notebook, Still Standing Spray, asthma inhaler, tissues, Boscia charcoal blotting linens and a lens cloth for my glasses. Can I mention that the Kale Krunch and Boscia product came from my Stylight goodie bag? I did. cb5 A perfect day for Le Grand Hat, don’t you think? Kind of like Easy E, but with a sense of humor. cb6 After covering backstage I made it home and looked at my trophies. I didn’t go tearing all over the city. I wasn’t followed by paparazzi or streetstyle photogs, but I had fun. I actually enjoyed Fashion Week for the first time since I came to New York and started covering fashion. And I got backstage! With my favorite beauty brand Aveda! I was living the dream!!!endThen I washed off all my makeup and took off my heels and stuff and went back to being me. Which is always the best part of all.

Next up: we go to Daniel Silverstain‘s ss2016 show and Nolcha Fashion Lounge

The Meetup Adventure: in which we end up touring the China: Through the Looking Glass exhibit in a Khromato minidress (and there’s a #giveaway)

china1

I know, we’ve been to a ton of museums this year starting with Dating Diary and now with meetup. However, who could pass up the most exciting fashion show of the year? YES. We finally went to the massive Chinese fashion exhibit at the Met and it was everything you think it is, and possibly more.

china2In a funny coincidence, I started working with a n online store called Khromato as an affiliate and they agreed to send over a dress for me to wear to the exhibit. I picked this one because the damask print halter style dress ($26.99) looked sort of Asian to me. They also sent over this fun fashion jewelry which you’ll have a chance to win (yay!) later in this post.

china3The day the dress came, I could not contain myself. I jumped right into it. I don’t usually wear body con dresses, so this was a whole new fashion experience for me. What shoes do you wear for this? And are my thighs up to this kind of exposure?

Help.

china5I decided  to pair the dress on my fave Jasmine wedge heeled sandals from Ami Clubwear, and a ton of jewelry from Jade & Jasper and threw on a Southern Tide gingham men’s button down ($99.50) for pattern mixing and coverage.

I decided that since this is New York, and since I’ve seen way bigger thighs than mine on display, I should just go with it and not overthink things.

china4My beauty kit for the day was a cool shower followed by Kesh Beauty Argan oil with Rose Essence ($40) to keep those legs shiny with just a touch of fragrance. I did a neautral face with barely there gloss, but used Makeup Forever Aquamatic Waterproof Glide-on Eyeshadow pencil in Iridescent Blue ($22) to add color on my eyelids. I went with CND Vinylux Weekly polish in Tartan Punk ($10.50), a vibrant ‘dragon lady’ style red.

In the purse? That Panasonic mobile travel charger ($59.99), which I refuse to leave home without now.

china6After a series of crazy subway mishaps (service is always screwy on the weekends) I made it to the museum an hour late for the meetup. They were still there, but I decided to forge on alone.

china7aIt was ravishing and frenetic and busy and breathtaking. They crammed a lot of entertainment into this. You have to go through a drab (lots of sandy beige- not drab as in boring) Egyptian gallery to get to the show, and the first thing you see is RED.

china7

The lower level is all slinky mannequins with traditional Chinese kimonos hung behind them so that you can see the inspiration, as well as the evolution of the designs. There were video walls showing scenes from films like The Last Emperor and it was packed crowded.

Like, stop stepping on me, I can’t turn around crowded.

china9

Me and my dress felt perfectly at ease. After the initial discomfort of showing that much leg wore off, I just enjoyed how pretty the damask print was. I had tied the halter ties in front so that it had a little nod to menswear necktie. Instead of feeling weird, I felt super confident. I and my legs were spectacular, lol! I think I’d be comfortable wearing it out again, without the shirt.

Sorry about the wire- I had my Samsung Galaxy S5 Active tethered to the Panasonic charger in my bag the whole time.

china91

The two main bodies of the show are on the lower level, and then you take the elevator up to the second floor. I can’t really describe how to go through the galleries, you have to be there. But I think that the Met has done an amazing job in creating a show that just keeps knocking you out with inventiveness and beauty. There was one are that was like a lake, except the ‘water’ was polished stone (photo 2).

There was another area, that I stumbled onto that was a forest of clear, light filled poles surrounding mannequins in war-like clothing (below). Breathtaking.

china91a

Luckily you could take all the photos you wanted, which was the second best part. In today’s culture, not being able to photograph a show is like a slap in the face. How else can you show that you were there? How else will you remember?

china92

After I left the enchanting world of China:Through the Looking Glass, it was back to the crowds on New York.

china93

It was brutally hot outside, and I decided to go back to my usual geeky self. Out came the flat Cat Footwear Zosia sandals and my fave green bucket hat. I buttoned up the Southern Tide shirt and wiggled out of my Khromato damask print halter minidress, which fit quite nicely in my bag. Just like that, I went from sexy summer siren to classic American casual.

But it was nice while it lasted…

china94

Oh yeah- that giveaway… I thought, in honor of my outing to China: Through the Looking Glass, this faceted red bead and goldtone necklace from Khromato valued at $21.99 would be a fitting gift, as opulent as that show. Enter here to win!

Good luck!

in which we go out and deliver cookies, do some windowshopping and shoot a little streetstyle

This is one of those looooong posts, but by the end we’ll be totally caught up and ready for anything.

May 10th:

may101

I had some events in the city (as some of us call the isle of Manhattan) and I was going to maximize my carfare by using my time to also give away cookies to nice people who have given me invitations or stuff to write about. I had this amazing Aloha powder supplement to add to my smoothies (last packet, sniff!) along with chunks of fresh ginger and carrot, strawberries, half a beet, peanut butter and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. That was a good smoothie.

may102

Went for my walk in the park wearing my fave Citizen Ciao t-shirt over my long sleeved Uniqlo shirt with leggings and my old Cat Footwear sandals from last summer.

may103

I washed up and baked some cookies, like 4 or 5 dozen, then got them packaged and stuck a business card on the side. Ready!!

may103a

Ok, well- I got dressed first. may104

have I ever explained how much I love the Columbus Circle stop? It has never changed, and every time I see that big globe I get a little teary-eyed.  may105

Central Park- lush foliage, street vendors, horses dressed in costumes. may106

NY Fashion, behind the scenes! may107

I went to my event and then walked around for awhile since I was done dropping stuff off. Ate this sandwich they gave me at the press preview, looked at tall buildings. I’m such a tourist when I go into Manhattan!

 Windowshopping & Concrete Runway:may108

So every trip into Manhattan is a chance to get caught up on what’s hot and happening in NYC. I adore and worship this carryall that I saw in teh window of Henri Bendel’s. This Topshop window showcased an Asian theme, smart since they got Topshop on the Met Gala Red Carpet.  may109

This was cool- my walk took me from India to a window featuring Bigfoot. sad because I used to have a Polaroid Land Camera and dropped it one day on a tile floor right before a photoshoot. may1091

Club Monaco‘s pretty, minimalist frill white dress, and some madness from Opening Ceremony that caught my eye. So want that coat! may1092

Love these pretty, kitschy accessories. None of this stuff is expensive. That’s the trick of New York- necessities are super expensive, but you can get gewgaws like this for cheap. may1093

So New York. may1094

Loved this knock-off fashion display. there are tons of little stores all over the place that have adorable merch. Why people rely on running into chain-store fast fashion is beyond me. But, whatever. may1095

It’s funny how you can get all Bill Cunningham and start seeing trends and coincidences. I spotted the first black and white outfit at the press preview, and the monochrome trend kept popping up. Ending in the third image where EVERYONE was wearing it. may1096

Leopard print shoes and sneakers.

may1097

Just three outfits I liked. I so loved the pregnant badass in lace and denim- I chased her down, actually. Her boots are perfection. Congrats, little mama!

May 14:

2may141

Getting ready to head into town!!! I liked the ease of this Daisy Fuentes dress from last summer, it went perfectly with my Cat Footwear Squander boots and my REpurposing NOLA custom made boho chic handbag (thank you so much Traci!). 2may142

This time out, certain people who have gone above and beyond got brownie bites AND cookies. Today I was feeling ribbony, trying to use up the last of the ribbon that I bought at Easter for my Birthday Month projects.

2may143

I know I look a little sad in this shot? But I’m really trying to show off my Sumptuous Olive MAC eyeshadow and Makeup Forever Ink Liner– done in three minutes. I also added my Aries necklace from Shop Jacqueline Rose– my everyday necklace since I got it last month. I made sure to pack my 48 cent copy of Mill On The Floss- a classic that I found at Strand Bookstore. It’s tragic, but also illuminating. You should read it. 2may144

I dropped off treats then headed to one of my favorite places in NYC. Madison Square Park always has a challenging outdoor installation going on. This on is called Fata Morgana and it’s up until winter.2may145

And then ran into the Almay beauty team who were having a #SimplyAmerican cookout right there in the street. Hot dogs and pretzels, free makeovers, and a lipstick tower. You were supposed to guess how many. I was taking the photo when one woman asked me if I was going to guess. Before I could muzzle myself, I said ‘I don’t have that kind of time’ which was mean. But she also stepped right in front of me just as I raised my camera to shoot. two wrongs don’t make a right, but still. 2may146

This is the only streetsyle shot that I took that day. And the funny thing was that because the snake was so out there, I was going to not take the photo. However, I was walking down Broadway and this person walked next to me for so many blocks that I wondered if there was a divine effort to make me take this photo. So I took it and it was gorgeous.  2may147

Saw this cute Moschino phone case- or maybe it’s a knockoff. Just thought it was adorable. Also took a second to shoot a photo of the Samsung Gear Fit that I picked up (thanks, guys!) and the awesome goodie bag that I got from the Underhaus‘ Swimpop 15 swimwear pop-up. I was going to instagram the pics, but I was exhausted, so I just went home and took a nap. 2may148

Put my Samsung GearFit on as soon as I got home. LOVE it! We’ll be talking about that soon…

Then I jumped into my Swimpop 15 gift bag- of course, right? I mean- it’s me! I got coupons with discount codes from swimwear brands (see the blog post for that info), baked bean crisps from Enlightened, a Skinny Girl beverage, Coco Nutz Pina Colada malt beverage (serious kick for 8% alcohol!) and a My Cabana Boy gadget that helps you spray sunscreen or self-tanner on your back.

2may149

This is a cute little bag from Mia Marcelle that I decided to give the DIY treatment to. Stay tuned, I’ll finish it soon and then talk about it.

May 20th:

3may20

These trees don’t look like this anymore- but I still wanted to use the pics to talk about walking down this particular block.

3may201

Went to the restaurant supply store to get some tops and cookie canisters- and they were out. NOOOO! I also saw these squirt bottles, and I am keeping them in mind for making designs on cookies, like nice caramel squiggles and things. I went home and used my last few canisters, but only one had a lid. LUCKILY I had these sweet treat bags, so everything still looked pretty. Ran out of hangtags, though.

3may202

I didn’t dress up for my trip into the city, even though I had a press preview to attend, because I was scheduled to work out at Crunch Gym as part of my weight loss resolution thing. We’ll get to that soon. I was walking the streets of New York dropping off cookies wearing sweatoants and a modcloth tshirt, Southern Tide Summer cardigan, my RE purposing NOLA bag, and these Cuttler sneakers from SUPRA footwear. AND my SEB headwrap (flashback!). I did make sure to put on some lipstick, in a hot red from Makeup Forever, which was not a coincidence since I was dropping off cookies at their pr company.

3may203

After a day of running here and there, I finally made it back home to look at my new beauty goodies from Urban Beauty United (rose gold accented makeup brushes with frou frou pink bristles) and ALL the summer goodies from Makeup Forever from Equalizer primer to Aqua Matic eyeshadow pencils to Aqua Lips gloss- plus a new ProBronze Fusion compact that I can’t wait to use on my next shoot.

Ok, we are all caught up now… have a great Memorial Day!!!

in which we get many, many, many deliveries… and LOVE it

Oh the joys of a new season! It’s the time that the emails start flying for roundups, personal style posts, photoshoots… It’s the time when I spend all day in the window looking out for UPS and Fedex. It’s spring!!! Let’s look at what the delivery man dropped off!

Beauty:

beauty instawave instr beauty yardley

I recently received an InstaWave curling iron- which I’ll be using for an upcoming Spring Style photoshoot (shhh! top secret!). It helps you create those long, beachy waves without fuss and stress. I love love love soap, so a shipment of Yardley Artisan Soap (in oat milk & honey and lavender & rosemary scents) was a welcome addition to the bath beauty drawer. Coincidentally, the soap came with the Instrumental Beauty Home Spa Treatment System, which we’ve already reviewed (thumbs up!).

beauty completely bare

I went to the Completey Bare Market around Valentine’s Day and got curious about home hair removal. there’s a product review coming up but I can tell you now: start saving your money and wax at home. It’s not that hard.

Makeup:

makeup kavd mfe

More makeup that I could ever use? Not so much! Spring and Summer demand new looks and I was lucky enough to hook up with Makeup Forever to update my makeup bag. And believe me, we’ll be talking about EVERYTHING over the next two seasons.

I do want to mention some things right now, like the Equalizer Primers for skin probs and radiance- I got the smoothing and hydrating primers and they are wonderful. Also? The super bright new Aquamatic Irridescent Blue waterproof eyeshadow pencil– you need this. The New York Times T Magazine has a video tutorial on how to work bold eyeliner:

Skin Deep: Bold Liners

and recently Anna Camp went to the MTV Awards with a bold eye look created by Melanie Inglessis with Makeup Forever products. her inspiration? “I wanted to create a makeup look that would match Anna’s vibrant and fun dress, while giving a nod to the 60s with a modern twist.”

You also went to get in on the Kat von D perfect matte lipstick, Underage Red, ironically priced at $21(it’s legal!). Just saying it adds a little frisson of controversy to the day!

Fragrance:

fragrance fiori bella poppy wildflower

When you wish for fragrance and it comes dancing to the door… I’m working on a spring fragrance roundup and managed to have these sent over: fiori and bella from Vince Camuto, Poppy Wildflower from Coach and Be Delicious from DKNY. Mmmm, can you smell your fragrance future?

home clean perfume

I won’t even open these Clean Perfume products in Warm Cotton (reed diffuser, room spray, and candle) until my home decorating project is done. But I HAVE opened the perfume rollerball, and it’s lovely. It smells clean, fresh, and sort of comforting.

Clothing:

home southern tide

When I met Southern Tide president Allen Stephenson at a press preview last month, I thought it he was just selling clothes. Then? I found out that old boy was selling EVERYTHING.  Southern Tide is a lifestyle brand, the best one that you may not have heard of. Everything that they sent was made right here in the US- shopped from Greenville, SC.

I admit to getting out of hand- but a woman with a home decorating project has to be ruthless. I just opened the Performance Towel set for my bathroom springcleaning refresh- and out came soft terrycloth towels- and handtowels and washcloths. Behold the Towel Tower!

clothing southerntide

Don’t worry- we’ll be talking about the clothes pretty soon. In fact? You can see how the women’s Summer Cardigan works with animal print in this Lucky Shops Community post. So cute.

clothing ll bean

In keeping with my American Brand fetish- I snagged some choice pieces from LL Bean Signature (also featured in the latest Lucky post). I felt like the Signature Check Chambray was a real must have. The navy and red striped poplin fit and flare dress? Do I even have to say anything?

clothing amiclubwear accessories amiclubwear

Remember this romper from my Pastels Lucky post? It came all rolled up in a box with this faux leather lock tote and crazy coral and gold booties. Fancy is not the word, darling! I could put on all three on a summer day and prance.

Accessories:

accessories tommy bahama lucky

Loved when this mint green infinity scarf showed up as my Lucky magazine subscription gift. Look how it matches this Tommy Bahama beach towel? Sigh… The beach is in my future, y’all!

accessories ume drive bracelets

I have told you and told you about the Ume Drive bracelets from the time that I met CEO Clem Harrigan at a fashion event. They were sweet enough to send over two more- and I have to be honest: I was going to do a giveaway, but I would rather keep them Go to www.umedrive.com and get your own. And get a lot, because you’ll be color coding your data to which USB bracelet you’re wearing that day.

accessories sjr rpnola cat

My birthday came and so did these most awesome prezzies. This sweet, delicate zodiac sign necklace is from one of my faves, Shop Jacqueline Rose (a fellow Aries) and it is my new everyday necklace. After sending me Christmas stockings and Hot Mess skincare products, Traci Claussen of REpurposing NOLA hauled off and MADE me a bag. Yep- just for me. I LOVE her.

Cat Footwear came through ON my birthday with these hot hot Squander boots, and they instantly became my new combat boot. I’ll be running these all spring and summer.

Ok- we’re all caught up – at least on deliveries. I have felt so guilty about not posting about these!!! There are lots of fun posts in the works, so you will be seeing and learning more about this stuff, so stay tuned.

NYFW Clothing Diary- what I wore in the freezing cold to go to the last MBFW at Lincoln Center

The only thing worse than going to Fashion Week in the dead of winter is not being invited to go to Fashion Week in the dead of winter. It’s the best time to see your friends, catch up on favorite brands, peoplewatch and shoot streetsyle, and try to make professional connections. If you’re not invited to anything, you may as well pull down your blog and go get a job.

Let’s get on with it…

Day One:

nyfwlooks1

the moment of truth arrived and I had not lost the weight that I wanted so my choices were limited. I decided to go with nerdchic layers mixing thrift store pieces with brand presents. The scarf and skirt are from last winter, and the tights are from Jack’s 99 World (.99). I layered on a Citizen Ciao Victoria Bay tshirt ($38) and my fave red Kensie Clothing high-low cardigan and then my LL Bean Freeport field jacket ($59). Finished off a dark grey wool beanie, a long stripey scarf around my neck and these Irenea Cat Footwear booties ($120) on my feet. The black and white bag is the Speedy from Kensie ($87.95).

I did a neutral eye (Aveda Allspice and Golden Cypress petal essence eyeshadows), heavy black eyeliner (Makeup Forever ink liner with butterLONDON Wink eye pencil in Union Jack Black ) and Rimmel London Scandaleyes mascara. Tata Harper Voluminous lip & cheek tint in Very Naughty ($35) put apples in my cheeks, and I went with a red lip (Makeup Forever Aqualip pencil in C19, Stila Liquid Stay All Day liquid lipstick in Fiery, and Rozge lipgloss in Barcelona) because that felt right.

nyfwlooks2

Ran into Rhea Santos of Sew Stylish Rhea and Glasgow (Dynel) Skinner of My Life On and Off the Guest List. So much fun! I ended up sitting near Glasgow at the Desigual show, which never happens.

nyfwlooks3

The Desigual ‘World of Creativity’ show was electric. I can’t wait to get that written up. In the audience were Katie Holmes, Drake, and model Adriana Lima. On the runway was Behati Prinsloo and Desigual brand ambassador Chantelle Winnie.

nyfwlooks3a

After the show we ambled over the Tide Fashion Closet where stylist Jennifer Eve Eisner (photo 1) was on hand to tell everyone about clothing maintenance and closet organization. I trust her. She had on real Valentino Garavani studded ballet slippers in neon green and said she wore them with everything (see them in photo 2).

They gave away cups of Blue Print Cleanse juice and bags of Tide Detergent pods. It was one of the most popular places to sit since they had this great white leather furniture and a charging station. I met Lorna Solana of The Fabulous Report, and Angela of The Little Black SuitcaseSarah Jessica Parker walked by, as did Bethann Hardison and Lynn Yaeger. That Tide corner was the hotspot. meanwhile we were all just sitting there drinking free juice and laughing at She Has Had It.

Day Two:

nyfwlooks4

I had to get to a show at 10 am, but I thought it was a presentation. I woke up late, almost didn’t leave the house, then finally got dressed and ran out. Forgot my hat, hair actually froze. Forgot gloves, not enough layers. Hated my makeup.

Sufferation.

Then I missed the show. Technically this outfit doesn’t exist. BUT check out my full length selfi thanks to my voice activated Samsung Galaxy S5 Active cameraphone! Did you guys notice? So now, as long as I remember to get it done, I’ll be doing full length selfies.

Day Three:

nyfwlooks5

Ok, THIS time I was going to make my show. Woke up early, showered, ate cracked bulgur wheat and everything. I wore my grey velvet coat that I bought in a thrift store in 2010, and the SUPRA Footwear Cuttler sneakers ($75) from the day before. A white button down shirt showed under a v-necked woven sweater from Kensie Clothing, both haphazardly tucked into a pair of LL Bean Trueshape Denim slimfit jeans ($59). I added a red jade Lisa Hoffman Beauty tunisian neroli fragrance bracelet ($65) to pick up the red in my sweater and lips. I brushed  Probelle Beauty Richness on my nails, accenting with Feeling Sexy (red, again). I gave myself a retro smokey eye with my Kevyn Aucoin ($42) and then just ran out the door.

nyfwlooks6

I managed to make it to Son Jung Wan, but I ended up not having a seat. That turned out to be a good thing because I was able to see the whole runway. the show was colorful, full of fur and sparkles. That’s also going to be reviewed here soon. Kelly Rutherford, Kelly Bensimmon, and Gene Simmons’ kids Nick and Sophie were also in the audience.

20150214_171124-1

It snowed on the way home.

Day Five:

nyfwlooks8

I didn’t have any Sunday events, so we jump ahead a  day to Monday the 16th. It was just a blogger lounge where brands want to meet ‘influencers’ so I wasn’t going to dress up. I grabbed my LL Bean tumbled leather Lounger boots ($249) which are super warm and go so well with my favorite crazy socks from Jacks 99 World (.99). I wore a great, drapey, soft Eric + Lani tshirt over a sweatshirt and under a rabbit fur jacket from the thrift storea nd my l bean jacket. Those sweat pants were $16 at Rainbow last summer. The bag is a faux snakeskin hobo from Kensie ($87.95)

nyfwlooks9

My favorite discovery at TechStyle Lounge was this UME Drive bracelet (4 for $100), and my second favorite was this Selfie Stage from Stylinity ($19.99 and it has a suction cup on the back!)  for hands-free selfies.

20150216_194234

Stopped by Key Food and bought provisions. I was out of leeks. That is the last bread that I can eat until after Lent. I am so sad about that- but this was my last sandwich, so…

20150217_142458

It was so good. So, so , sooooooooooooooooooo good.

Sigh.

Day Five:

Yeah, it was cold and I was tired. It was snowing, too. So I stayed home and made red bean soup and looked at all the loot that I’d managed to accrue. We’ll talk about that later.

Day Six:

Photographed loot, ate soup, posted NYFW Streetsyle to blog.

Day Seven:

I got invited to see Cinderella!!!! Just randomly. So I trooped back over to Lincoln center to hangout with him and two male models at the screening. Fate, karma, serendipity.

I had to step it up a little- and for me that always mean breaking out the Escada jacket. I did a polka dot Eric + Lani longsleeved tshirt under a striped punk rock mohair sweater and bravely wore leggings (ok, I had two pairs of leggings on). I wore my LL Bean jacket under the Escada and my Cat Footwear Irenea boots.I wore my fave brass snake bracelet, Lia Sophia earrings, and this Brazilian Begonia bracelet ($75)

Bag of the day was this peachy pink number from Kensie Clothing which has a fun separate zippered compartment in the front to keep things like your Lucky magazine from getting all crumpled. The color of this bag matches the color of the Lucky logo on this month’s Lupita Nyon’go covered issue, too. It also went perfectly with my Desigual scarf (everyone who attended the NYFW show got one).

Serendipitous.

I wore my hot pink beanie and the scarf that Desigual gave everyone at the show (it’s so pretty!). The great thing about cold weather is that I feel comfortable putting on makeup. I did a fast makeover using Susan Posnick colorflo mineral makeup brushes and colorcorrect highlighting and concealing pencil. I used Aveda Aubergine and Golden Cypress petal essence eyeshadows, Makeup Forever Ink Liner ($23) and my bullet shaped Ellis Faas E401 mascara with a little Origins GinZing brightening mascara.

Same red lip, same red products: Tata Harper Voluminous lip & cheek tint in Very Naughty ($35) put apples in my cheeks, Makeup Forever Aqualip pencil in C19, Stila Liquid Stay All Day liquid lipstick in Fiery, and Rozge lipgloss in Barcelona). After years of feeling not qualified- I have hit my red lip stride.

I adored Cinderella (review coming up later, don’t worry!). The costumes were heavenly. The sets were perfect, and if the script and acting weren’t great- let’s remember that this is for kids. I adored Cate Blanchet as Lady Tremaine the Wicked Stepmother. Her wardrobe alone is worth the ticket price. I loved how the whole story revolves around making the right shoe choice. The glass slipper on display in the lobby made me think of these adorable Ami Clubwear single sole tropical print pumps that it was too cold to wear.

Someday…
