The Red Bodysuit

This red bodysuit is the business.

SO! I was at a sale at this upscale store and I found this most gorgeous red bodysuit. The fabric feels and looks like crepe jersey, it’s beautifully sewn, and has a cutout that extends across the back to the sides. The color, a full tomato saucian red, is sizzling. It just doesn’t have any label, so I can’t tell the brand or designer.

Whomp whomp.

Which didn’t stop me from snapping it up. No label doesn’t mean low quality. Look how elegant it looks with this swanky Banana Republic circle skirt and Steve Madden glitter boots. For going to the store or casually doing laundry while a photographer snaps every move. Just a normal outfit…

Or you could do this kind of 80s’ish look with some split sided track shorts (and tube socks and shower slides for the win). The shorts are not for sale- I’m really loving them? They’re from C&C California, but I found them at Century 21.

Red crepe jersey cutout bodysuit, size XS

Measures 26 inches from shoulder to crotch. 13 inches from armpit to armpit, unstretched. Waist covers about 8 inches in front. Hips are 12 across, unstretched. Sleeves are 21 inches long. Cutout is 8 x 14. *Shipping is included in the price. **I only sell/ship in the United States.

$52.00

Banana Republic Circle Skirt, size 6

Looks like duchesse satin, made of nylon/spandex/elastane with a polyester lining. Slash pockets at each hip. Wear with a T-shirt and cardigan, sheer blouse, bodysuit, bandeau top, corset or tank top. As versatile as a pair of jeans. Great condition. Measures 25 inches from waist to hem. Waist is 14 inches across, no stretch. 24 inches across the hips. Skirt flares out to 40 inches at the hem. *Shipping is included in the price. **I only sell/ship in the United States.

$45.00

Steve Madden Harpir Booties, size 7.5

Rock star studded, glittery Steve Madden Harpir Booties in pewter. Sleek, pointed toe and 3 inch stiletto heel. From skirts to jeans, super wearable and versatile. Brand new, never worn. *Shipping is included in the price. **I only sell/ship in the United States.

$110.00

Art Deco style acrylic bracelet, OS

Handmade black and silver stretch cuff is lightweight plastic and resin with sparkling oversized rhinestones. Has that punk with a side of debutante thing going on. Fits comfortably on a 7 inch wrist. *Shipping is included in the price. **I only sell/ship in the United States.

$35.00

See you next time!

Everyone is mad for the 70s (still, again) and I was thinking about what would inspire me to jump on that vibe. What does 70s mean to me? And then I remembered this:

My mom had this album, an Diana Ross’s fake eyelashes and perfect coif on the back cover mesmerized me. Was this being grownup?

in which we run off to see a rehearsal of La Sylphide at NYC Ballet

20160212_172141

While everyone else was off at NYFW, I was running in the other direction to attend a members only rehearsal of the New York City Ballet’s production of La Sylphide. Fancy.

20160212_172159

Of course I ended up almost missing it. I only had to take one train, but still managed to have to run the few blocks over to Lincoln Center.

Managed to make it just in time. I took this right after I got into my seat.

I have actually never been to the NYC Ballet before, so I took a minute to walk around after the performance.

Lucky Community styling post featuring animal prints for ss2015 (rawr!)

So the prompt for Lucky Community came and it was all about animal print, since that is the new neutral (that’s what they said).  I ran in the closet and the delivery pile and started styling…

Outfit 1:

1 1a 1b

I figured I’d start with a casual outfit, perfect for school or work. This is pretty easy to pull off and the white pant is comfortable and a great piece to mix patterns around. This outfit has checks, stripes, and print- but you really don’t feel it…
Outfit 2:

This look was inspired by all the festival style tweets I was seeing last week. I loved mixing the colors, but also how easy this is- jump out of bed, grab pieces, dress, leave- done. Those boots are super comfortable by the way, and cut to conform to the shape of your foot.
calvin klein shortsleeve animal print sweater
ann taylor a-line skirt with slit pockets
Outfit 3:
3a 3b 3c
This may be my fave because of the humour involved. Very proper lady wears gold oxfords and a bucket hat!!! This is also the most personal look, since most of it is thrifted. It’s my smartass punk dowager look resurfacing, lol!
green bucket hat, $7 on Fulton Street in Brooklyn
vintage leopardskin cardigan (Monk Thrift Store, NY)
harve benard white cotton shortsleeved blouse (thrift)
black silk pleated skirt (thrift)
marc jacobs daisy solid perfume pin/pendant (limited edition)
lisa hoffman link bracelet with fragrance pendant (limited edition)
Next up: recap of Mar/April because I miss talking about nothing

In which I get new glasses from the exclusive Kensington Road collection from Glasses.com

Opening email is an adventure when you blog or regularly publish content online. Sometimes there’s nothing but twitter updates and tumblr announcements, and sometimes? There’s Christmas.

glassescom1

I got an email from someone who had seen my NY Fashion and Trends Examiner column. They asked me if I was interested in finding out more about the Kensington Road collection, Glasses.com’s first ever exclusive collection. My answer? Sure! Then they sent me a package with a big box of tea from Harrod’s, some chocolate covered digestive biscuits from McVitie’s and a coupon for a complete pair of glasses. The Kensington Road collection is designed to evoke the British influence of the 60s- a retro look that’s solid, dependable, and has a stiff upper lip.

I’ve been wearing contacts for a few years, and I had recently started thinking about going back to glasses, so this came at exactly the right time.

I looked through the Kensington Road frames and picked the Leighton style in black. I opted for the 15 day free trial just in case, since it was first experience with buying glasses online. The deal is that if you don’t like them, you can exchange them, no fuss.

The actually looked really great, sort of Prada-ish. They reminded me of of my favorite Tom Ford frames. I loved the leather case, which looks like an old fashioned camera case with it’s caramel brown leather and flat top. A large, luxurious lens wiping cloth comes along with the glasses. Overall? Top marks for the presentation and packaging.

glassescom4

Unfortunately? I just wasn’t crazy about them, so back they went.

I ended up getting the Grafton frame in tortoiseshell in my new updated prescription. The minute they came out of the package I loved them. I love a restrained, British look with a little punk thrown in. Properly eccentric, properly crazed. These glasses suited the shape of my face, focus attention on my eyes,, and make me look serious. Geek chic? Yes, please! I was a nerd before it was cool, so you know…

glassescom6Yeah, ok- the many moods of Sassy Ethnic Bohemian, but it works for me. I love my Kensington Road glasses from Glasses.com– I’d definitely order another pair to add to my eyewear wardrobe. My Graftons go with everything though, so it may be awhile.

Pip, pip, cheerio, and all that!

The leopardskin cardigan, or what makes an item of clothing your best friend.

DSC04271 DSC04908

One day I was walking around in the Village, near Washington Square Park and saw this cool thrift store. I went in and started poking around. Finding the prices reasonable and the merchandise appealing, I settled in for a good long browse with intent to buy.

After looking, holding things up, turning things inside out, feeling fabric, sniffing, trying on, discarding, and searching item by item and rack by rack for the ONE thing? I found my leopardskin cardigan. Behold the resulting sartorial glory!

lepcardimonk

The print is a perfect palette of neutral browns and a hint of black- as a result, it goes with ANYTHING. Just anything. It’s just thick enough and is made from a soft, stretchy cotton that has held up to repeated washings without fading. The 3/4 length sleeves make this rock with a retro dress or tshirt and pencil skirt, but then you can get grungy and put it with a rock tshirt and coated jeans or shiny leggings. The card has it’s own swagger, but can be a backup singer if neccessary.

sebchromatnyfw

(the cardi goes to NYFW. I love this outfit so much)

If I’m feeling lost and alone, I throw on my cardi. Ok, that’s weird- but I do end up looking through the cardigan pile and saying -‘hey you! let’s go out’ and putting that cardigan on. I cannot say enough about my leopardskin cardi.
